The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has clearly stated out that India will not play Asia Cup in Pakistan. BCCI claims that it has no issues with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) hosting the 2020 edition of the Asia Cup but the venue must be neutral as India will not travel to Pakistan. This T20 will be the preparatory ground for the World T20 in Australia.
BCCI officials said that the hosting right is not a problem but it is about the case of picking a neutral venue.
The BCCI official remarked, “The question isn’t about the PCB hosting the tournament. It is about the venue and as things stand now, it is quite clear that we would need a neutral venue. There is no way that an Indian team can visit Pakistan to even participate in a multi-nation event like the Asia Cup. If the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is ok with an Asia Cup minus India then it is a different ball game. But if India is to participate in the Asia Cup, then the venue cannot be Pakistan.”
One of the major reasons the Asia Cup tournament in India was shifted out of the country back in 2018 was because Pakistani players had issues in obtaining a visa. Thus BCCII hosted the tournament in the UAE.
The official said that PCB can also host the event at a neutral venue.
The official further said, “A neutral venue is always an option. The BCCI did it in 2018.”
