India plans to defend its border with 5-integrated theater commands by 2022. The plan is all because of the rising conflict with Pakistan and China.
As per Hindustan Times, the Indian military is planning not just to strengthen its forces to tackle Pakistan and Chine, but also in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
As of now, the the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and the Indian Navy defend the airspace of the country.
Following the US and China, the Indian Primer Minister – Narendra Modi – approved the theater command to Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat.
The report also added that this reform will start from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh and continue till Kibithu for the Northern Command. The total guarded area of this domain is 3,425 km of the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The second command i.e. the Western Command, will start from Indira Col in Siachen Muztagh.
The third command will be the Peninsular Command and the fourth will be a complete air defense command.
The fifth command will be a marine command.
