It is informed by the Ministry of Interior that India may target & attack China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) installations. Gilgit-Baltistan’s home department is informed about it that India is planning to hit CPEC installations with the aim to disrupt the mega project.
It is directed by the ministry to ensure foolproof security arrangements so that no such incident occurs. A home department official said that the federal interior ministry recently issued them a letter, warning of a likely terrorist attack on the CPEC route.
Furthermore, as per the official, the letter No 221/Is2018 January 28 said that 400 Muslim youngsters are sent by India to Afghanistan to get training. They are trained to attack the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor installations. The likely targeted areas include Karakoram Highway (KKH) & many other important CPEC route points.
Gilgit Baltistan government has increased the security. The CPEC route including almost 12 bridges built on KKH from Khunjerab Pass to Diamer district has been alerted on the interior ministry’s directives.

The government of Gilgit-Baltistan has asked to ensure foolproof security arrangements, especially for the bridges.
In order to review the security of the area the Jawad Akram GB Home Secretary, Sabir Ahmed Inspector General of Police and other police offices and intelligence member visited the Diamer district
Muhammad Ajmal who is the Diamer SSP told the officials about the security arrangements needed for KKH bridges and all CPEC routes.
Also, a meeting was held between home secretary, IGP & SHOs of Diamer district in Chilas.
Sabir Ahmed spoke on the occasion stating that the KKH bridges are the most sensitive area on CPEC route. The security officials were alerted specifically about the bridges. They were asked to keep eye on suspicious people entering the area.
IGP informed that CPEC is a billion dollar mega project and the project has great importance for the people living in the area. Thus all resources must be used to safeguard this mega project. The police have to patrol the CPEC route continuously.
IGP further said, “Suspected persons in the region will be detained under the Fourth Schedule.”
In the meeting DIG headquarters Shoaib Khurram, DIGs of three ranges, AIG of CPO, AIG special branch, all districts police SSPs were also present.
It is clear that CPEC is a threat to Indian sovereignty as they fear that CPEC might internationalize Kashmir. Thus India might attack CPEC installations, as the Pakistan government fears.
