The chicken prices have surged in the provincial capital of Punjab as Eid draws closer. The price of chicken has increased by Rs.80 per kilogram.
After the surge in the prices, the meat is now being sold for Rs.350 for a kilogram. People say that some days back the item was being sold at Rs.240 per kilogram.
Buyers have expressed their frustration at the situation.
On the other hand, the butchers have placed the entire blam, about the surge in prices on the hoarders and profiteers as they have created a shortage in the market. One of them said that the shopkeepers never want their businesses to suffer in any way.
The Poultry Traders Association has warned the government that if the prices of the live poultry will not decrease, they will shut down their businesses in protest.
On the other hand, the Punjab government has taken the decision of allowing the hotels, restaurants, and cinemas to open in the province after Eid-ul-Fitr.
The hotels are already offering the take-away services under the issued SOPs by the government, however, after Eid they will also be allowed to offer the dine-in services.
