Previously reported that PITB has installed 192 hotspots of free public wifi in 3 major cities of Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan, also free public wifi service would be available in Murree.
On Wednesday, during inauguration ceremony in Arfa software Technology Park, Chief Minister Punjab revealed the plan and said total of 200 hotspots will be installed in five major cities of Pakistan including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad and Bahawalpur.
5000 schools are also equipped with information technology labs in order to enhance the quality of education and teachers performance, hundreds and thousands of people would be benefitted from the free public wifi service in Punjab. Punjab government is considering revolutionary measures regarding the promotion of IT in the province and there are other plans like opening 7 new incubation centers across Punjab, said Shahbaz Shareef.
He also added, digitizing the land record system and computerization of police stations are the examples of heading towards digitalization, digital Pakistan is the only way forward to prosperity.
PITB Chairman DR. Umer Saif briefed about the steps taken to introduce e-governance in Punjab with the use of IT in health sector, education sector and Police and others.
It was also reported this week that PITB is going to collaborate with Dubai Police for the development of their integrated police systems, which shows the potential of Pakistan’s IT industry.
People living in Lahore will find free public wifi in Lahore and all other cities mentioned above very soon, but it is not confirmed yet whether Murree will be the part of program or not as mentioned in the previous report few weeks back.
