IMF Seeks Reforms from Pakistan for a Better Economy

In a recent meeting, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as asked Pakistan to further reform its financial policy for a better economy.

In a recent virtual meeting, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as asked Pakistan to further reform its financial policy for a better economy.

MD IMF, Kristalina Georgieva attended a virtual meeting with several important people from different nations. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Advisor to PM on Finance, represented Pakistan in the meeting.

MD IMF told that she had a productive meeting with the advisor. Governor SBP, Dr. Reza Baqir was also present in the meeting.

In her recent tweet, she appreciated Pakistan’s effort to fight Covid-19 and said:

The participants all discussed the impacts of coronavirus on the economy. They all suggested some actions to reform their economic policies.

Hafeez Shaikh added his comments that to fight the rising poverty in the country, they could be needing more financial aid. He further said that the country is in no position to further increase taxes as businesses are already facing huge troubles.

He also enlightened the members with the current reformation they had for individuals and the business community.

Other members included Ministers and Governors from other Middle East, North Africa, and Afghanistan were also part of this virtual meeting. This virtual meeting was with the MENAP region, headed by Kristalina Georgieva.
