The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has barred Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) from taking any action against the 2 mobile operating firms, namely; Mobilink and Telenor.
The court has also asked for a para-wise reply from the Information Technology Ministry and from PTA until the 14th of this month.
The Chief Justice of IHC—Athar Minallah took up the pleas that were filed by the Mobilink—Mobile Communications Limited and Telenor Pakistan for hearing on Monday.
During the case hearing session, Advocate Hamid Khan took the matter that licenses to the cellular mobile companies were last issued on May 26 in the year 2004 for a span of 15 years.
He mentioned that the renewal of licenses is the right of cellular operators and that PTA needs to take the decision on the renewal of license within the span of 3 months.
He said that they wrote a letter to Pakistan Telecommunications Authority on this matter on the 31st of March 2016, however, no decision was taken on the application so far. He accused the respondents of delaying the process of the license renewal intentionally.
Deputy Attorney General Raja Khalid Mehmood asked for some time from the court for filing a reply. The court granted him the request and suspended the hearing until 14th of May.
