The national airline of Iceland, Icelandair has taken the decision to terminate the employment of its cabin crew permanently and have asked the spare pilots to work as the crew staff in the routine flights.
The decision was taken after the management of the airline failed to negotiate with the Icelandic Cabin Crew Association over the new agreements in response to the COVID-19 epidemic. The two parties had inked a deal for 5 years which involved the decision of increasing the flexibility and productivity.
It came out that the airline has signed same deals with the pilots and the engineers’ unions, but, the cabin crew has voted against the recommendations by a majority of 73:27 a week back.
The airline made the announcement to end the employment of its cabin crew members on a permanent basis and to discontinue the employment relationship between the two sides.
Furthermore, the national carrier of Iceland was also looking for cabin crew and is as per reports to be in talks with the staff who lost their jobs when the Wow Air suspended in the year 2018, as per the reports of Independent.co.uk.
For resisting the decision of the airline the cabin crew union has threatened to start a strike at once.
