Hospitals in Abbottabad go on strike today, it was reported earlier that all three major hospitals in Abbottabad including District Headquarter Hospital, Ayub Medical Complex and Women and Children Hospital were completely shut down. Apart from these major hospitals Havelian Hospital also observed strike today.
The strike was organized by the provincial doctors association in order to show the unity among doctors of LRH Peshawar against manhandling by Peshawar police and against the privatization of the provincial hospitals.
The government is chalking out the plan to privatize the regional and provincial hospitals not only in KPK province but also in Punjab, the idea behind privatization is to lift the burden from the government in maintaining these hospitals and improve the quality of healthcare. The government is planning to provide health cards to ordinary people for their healthcare needs while privatizing government hospitals.
According to the details, as many as 80 operations that were scheduled in these three hospitals has been delayed due to the strike, patients traveling from remote areas to the hospitals have suffered a lot, there is no OPD service in all three hospitals.
