Honor seeks Huawei’s support to roll out some updates to devices released before April 1, 2021.

We all know that Honor is now a separate entity and releases its own handsets, getting attention worldwide. But there would be some areas where Honor would be needing its ex-owners help. And so here, Honor seeks Huawei’s assistance to roll out firmware updates to a list of smartphones.

According to Honor Finland, Huawei will handle firmware updates to all Honor devices released before April 1, 2021. So, Honor will be responsible for handling its firmware updates for devices released after April 1, 2021. So the new Honor 50 series will be solely handled by Honor.

In a statement, Suvi Surenkin, Honor Marketing Director for Finland and The Baltics said:

“If a consumer is in touch with us, we always help [them] as far as we can before directing [them] to Huawei customer service. We continue to help with matters related to the use of smartphones[…] The intention is to serve both old and new HONOR consumers as well as possible.

On the other hand, Huawei has ensured that it will continue supporting high-end Honor devices with monthly updates and more affordable devices every quarter. The devices getting a monthly update include the Honor 20, 20 Pro, and View 20. While those getting quarterly security updates include:

  • Honor 30
  • Honor 30 Pro +
  • Honor 30i
  • Honor 30S
  • Honor View 30 Pro
  • Honor 20e
  • Honor 20i
  • Honor 20S
  • Honor 20 Lite
  • Honor 10i
  • Honor 9A

  • Honor 10X
  • Honor 9X lite
  • Honor 10X lite
  • Honor 9X Pro
  • Honor 8A

However, Huawei didn’t say if it would roll out full Android version upgrades, such as Android 11 or Harmony OS. But it would only roll out security patches.
