On Tuesday, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has supposedly reviewed its policy for Ph.D. admissions on 1 January 2021.
As per the revised policy, students can also apply for Ph.D. directly after 4-year BS programs.
According to the reports, the policy states that the minimum duration of a Ph.D. degree will be 3 years while the maximum period of the degree will be 8 years.
HEC has also eliminated the obligation of having a previous qualification in the same discipline in order to apply for a precise Ph.D. program.
In case of non-implementation or violation of the policy, HEC would take action against universities ranging from warnings, suspension or cancelation of NOC for admissions, and non-verification of credentials.
In the meantime, the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) has articulated serious concerns and forbidden the reviewed policy by the HEC.
Note that the HEC has not yet allotted the official notification of the reread policy change regarding Ph.D. admissions.
