The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has recently announced that it would not be issuing equivalence certificates for the Final Examination Certificates given by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP), Membership of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), UK and Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP).
As per a notification, HEC mentioned that it acknowledges the certificates of the mentioned institutions as equivalent to Master of Commerce (M. Com) degree. Hence, the authority would not be issuing any equivalence letter for the mentioned certificates.
This means that from now onwards, the said certificates would be taken as equal to M. Com by the local employers and universities. The notice has also advised the employers and the educational institutions to determine the candidate’s suitability for jobs and a \dmissions in line with the rules and regulation.
It is important to mention that before this notification, the HEC used to issue a letter of equivalence on an individual basis after taking the applications into consideration.
But it was giving trouble for both the students and HEC alike. For keeping the operating procedures simple for students, public and faculty the HEC has taken the decision of recognizing the certificates under debate as equivalent to M.Com.
Many students previously have also complained regarding this condition of equivalence letter, which is not issued without a significant experience of nearly 3 years. This move for sure is going to make the job-hunting process easy for these students.
