On Saturday, Dr.Tariq Banuri Chairman (HEC) Higher Education Commission said that colleges and universities can be considered to reopen in order to conduct examinations in the middle of the coronavirus.
The chairman said in a program said that the decision can be applied if the situation gets better by the end of this month.
He said that HEC will seek suggestions from the experts and also they will forward their suggestions to the government regarding this matter.
As per Dr.Tariq, no policy has been finalized yet. But a meeting has been scheduled for the upcoming Tuesday to discuss the suggestions of reopening the colleges and universities.
He asked students not to lay down their arms in the struggle to overcome coronavirus while HEC is considering options to reopen universities for examinations.
Recently, Shafqat Mehmood Federal Education Minister made an announcement for the cancellation of the board examination all over the country as a preventive measure to control the spread of the virus.
He further stated that in a meeting of the National Coordination Committee held in Islamabad, it has been decided that all the educational institutions will be closed till the 15th of July.
Board exams for the students of class 9th, 10th, and 11and 12 have been canceled and the students will be promoted to the next classes on the basis of the results they obtained in their previous class.
He explained this by saying that a student can get admission in university on the basis of his/her 11th standard’s result.
According to the Federal Education Minister, this decision has been taken on the consensus of all provinces and all the students can enroll in their next classes once the school reopens.
