According to reports, a halal nightclub is soon opening in Saudi Arabia. Dubai and Beirut nightclub brand White revealed that it is opening a new branch in the coastal city of Jeddah.
The new venue will just serve non-alcoholic cocktails. Those in favor of this nightclub tweeted using the Arabic-language hashtag #JeddahDisco.
Those who were against the opening of the nightclub said: “I don’t accept forbidden acts on Jeddah beach.”
According to the CEO of the venue, the night club will be a high-end cafe and lounge.
Tony Habre said, “The Saudi market will be great because the local community goes out a lot. You have people in the country who go out a lot.”
The social media users and the Saudi public, in general, is divided upon the opening of a halal night club. Some are happy and consider it a step towards modernization of the Kingdom, while many feel that it is something unacceptable.
The nightclub is the extension of the aim of the authorities to modernize the conservative kingdom. This includes giving women the right to drive.
Currently, the Kingdom is highly criticized for the detention and ongoing trials of many women activists. Also when the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was blamed for the killing of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the government was highly criticized.
