planet hollywood data breach

Hackers have been scraping credit cards data since May 2018 from the various restaurant locations in Las Vegas, New York and, Orlando, the Earl Enterprises confirms data breach.

According to the details, the hackers have used Point-of-Sale malware to scrape data, in many restaurant locations including Buca di Beppo, Earl of Sandwich and Planet Hollywood; however, not all the locations of all restaurants were compromised.

According to a security firm KrebsOnSecurity, as many as 2.15 million cards data was compromised and listed for sale on black market in February. However, people who ordered online at the above locations were safe because the malware only affected POS terminals at the restaurants.

The affected data also doesn’t include some of Earl’s chains such as Bertucci’s Café Hollywood and Seaside on the Pier.According to Earl, the breach was addressed and rectified properly; people visiting at Earl’s would be at risk. But 10 months of data access is a lot, the hackers are selling or probably have sold much of data on the black market which could potentially harm numerous consumers.
