Govt to conduct ‘smart sampling’ of coronavirus in all Punjab jails

In efforts to prevent the further spread of the novel coronavirus, the PTI-led provincial government of Punjab has announced to start sampling in all jails across the most populated province of the country.

The Inspector-General of Prisons Punjab Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig said that in the first phase of the initiative, a smart sampling of 30 prisoners and 10 staff members will be conducted.

According to the details, the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department of Punjab will take the samples of the prisoners and other staff members of all jails across the province under the “smart sampling project” to detect and determine the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Inspector-General of Prisons Punjab said that the smart sampling will help to detect the patients of the coronavirus in the jails of Punjab and prisoners diagnosed with the deadly virus will be kept in isolation after the emergency of results.

The details further said that the second phase of the smart sampling will start from the next week.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier, as many as 487 new cases of the deadly virus were reported in Punjab in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the province to 87,043.
