The government is likely to approve the new telecom renewal policy today. The cabinet meeting would be held today and the Prime Minister—Imran Khan would be presiding it. The meeting would be taking into consideration a 19-point agenda.
The body would also be considering an agenda “Policy Directive Under Section 8 of the PTA 1996 for the Renewal of Cellular Mobile Licenses in 2019”, presented by the Ministry for Information Technology and Telecommunication.
Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui—the Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication while talking to media on Monday said that the government would be revealing the license renewal policy for mobile operations for providing a level playing field, other than attracting investments in the nation.
While talking to the media persons Siddiqui said that a meeting was held with the PM Khan on Monday where policy for mobile license renewal was discusses, which would be revealed in the day to come for ensuring level playing field and for attracting investments in the nation.
In early May 2019 the license renewal of two mobile operators is expected and in October.
As per sources the government would probably ne maintain the price of $291 million for 10MHz block in 1800MHz band and $395million for the 10MHz block in 850MHz band. The payment terms are also anticipated to remain the same in the former auction.
Sources further revealed that the quality might be revised according to the international standards.
