Govt. Reduces Petrol, Diesel Prices by Rs 2 Per Litre

The government has decreased the petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2.07 and Rs 2.00 per litre respectively. The prices have been reduced for the month of April 2018. The prices of kerosene oil and LDO are not changed and maintained at the same level as of last month.

As per a notification released by the Ministry of Finance, the petroleum products prices for the month of April are as follows:

Petroleum Product Prices for the Month of April

Petroleum ProductPrice in Rupees
PetrolRs 86.00
Diesel (HSD) Rs 96.45
Kerosene Oil Rs 76.46
Light Diesel Oil (LDO) Rs 65.30

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has suggested an increase in the price of diesel by Rs 0.65 per litre but considering the fact that diesel is majorly used in the transportation of goods, public transportation, and also in the farm equipment, the government has taken the decision not to put any burden on the public at large with increased rates of diesel.

The OGRA has proposed a greater price reduction in the petrol prices, however, last month the government decreased the price of petrol more than what was suggested by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority. Given the increasing prices of crude oil in the international market, the government has taken the decision to decrease the petrol price by Rs 2.07 per litre.

The prices of Kerosene and Light Diesel Oil are being maintained at the same level as in March 2018 even though an increase in prices of both these products has been proposed by OGRA.

The prices would be put in effect from the 1st of April till the midnight of 30th April.

It is a good step both by the government and OGRA that this time around both of them are working on petroleum prices reduction for providing ease to the people rather than increasing the prices.
