In a meeting, the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation (CCoP) discussed the plan to sell the Roosevelt Hotel in New York. The hotel is owned by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). This move is opposed by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) calling it ill-timed.
In the privatization commission sources said that the CCoP meeting was conducted on one-point agenda to discuss New York hotel’s sale. It was held under the chairmanship of Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. However, due to the unscheduled meeting of the federal cabinet, it was postponed for a day.
On the other hand, concerned over the PIA operation in Europe and other nations a decision has been taken by different airlines to ground the Pakistan-origin pilots and engineers. For this PPP has called for a judicial inquiry to find out the Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan’s statement about fake and dubious licences of the pilots, its “motive and intent”. PPP wants to file a treason case against the aviation minister.
PPP has asked that the aviation minister must resign and a case must be registered against him on treason charges.
PPP Senator Raza Rabbani said that the federal government has given an “irresponsible statement” on the alleged false and irregular licences of pilots
Mr. Rabbani said, “A judicial inquiry must be ordered into the motive and intent of such a statement.”
