Govt Not Considering Privatizing PSM


Ali Muhammad Khan—the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs informed National Assembly on Thursday that the government was not thinking about the privatization of Pakistan Steel Mills—PSM.

During the question hour in the House, the minister said that PSM is a national asset of the nation like other institutions which includes Radio Pakistan, Pakistan International Airlines—PIA, Pakistan Railways and others.

The minister said that PSM has been removed from the list of privatizations and the government was inclined upon reviving the entity for transforming it into a profitable body.

He said that the Privatization Commission has successfully conducted 5 privatization transactions during the span of 2014-18, producing proceeds costing Rs172.9billion.

The minister said that the government has got the plans to privatize 5 to 6 bodies which includes Jinnah Convention Centre, Services Hospital Lahore, two banks and others.

Answering to another query, Ali Muhammad said that an international level research university would be built at the PM House as per the vow made by the Prime Minister—Imran Khan.

The minister added that no particular rules and regulations are provided in the Capital Development Authority—CDA for the permission of opening universities in residential areas of the federal capital.

For that purpose, the minister said that bylaws of CDA would be altered and the Higher Education Commission would present a summary to the Interior Ministry.
