Earlier it was reported that IMF wants the Federal government to end subsidies on Gas and Electricity in order to generate revenue from the utility sources. The federal government is now considering raising electricity and gas prices at the request of the IMF.
According to sources, the cabinet meeting will propose to increase the price of electricity by Rs 1.62 per unit for domestic consumers and up to Rs 2.63 per unit for commercial and industrial consumers while gas will also be proposed to be increased by 15 percent.
Sources said that an increase of Rs 20 per month in gas meter rent for domestic consumers will also be considered. A meeting of the Federal Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister will be held on Tuesday (Tomorrow) for which a 15-point agenda has been prepared. Last week, the ECC has approved an increase in RLNG prices after a meeting held on Wednesday.
