Government has issued licenses to 58 new TV channels.
On Monday Firdous Ashiq Awan—the special assistant to PM on information and broadcasting said that new TV channels would be creating more jobs in the media sector.
While addressing a press conference in the capital city, she said that 8 licenses were given out for news and current affairs channel, 16 were given to the entertainment channels, 11 were issued to the educational and tourism channels, 12 for regional, 5 for sports, 2 for agriculture and 4 for health channels.
The Prime Minister’s Special Assistant said that PEMRA had received 187 applications for the channel licenses.
The TV channels are currently facing 587 cases for the violation of the code of conduct of PEMRA as informed by Firdous Ashiq Awan. She further said that the “capacity building courses” would also be introduced for providing training to the media professionals on a quarterly basis.
