On Wednesday, the government launches an anti-encroachment drive in the different areas of Karachi. The anti-encroachment drive has been specially initiated beside Karachi’s Gujjar nullah.
According to the anti-encroachment director KMC, the drive started at 8 am today at three locations of the port city. Two operations were carried out from Café Pyala to Teen Hatti and one anti-encroachment operation was being conducted at a Nullah in New Karachi.
The rangers and police were also part of the anti-encroachment drive. Before the start of the operations, both Sui Gas and K-electric teams also arrived at the locations.
The deputy commissioner asked the residents of these areas to vacate their houses by 7 am so that they can carry out the operations. But the Residents of Liaquatabad came out to protest.
They blocked the roads and hindered the traffic between Nazimabad and Liaquatabad. Finally, their protest ended when the officials of the Sindh Government assured them that this drive is being carried out for commercial encroachments and not against residential ones.
The MQM-P (Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan) stated that the Centre and Provincial government has decided to provide homes to the residents of these areas before conducting the anti-encroachment drive.
People living in those areas should be provided with money and proper accommodation before clearing the encroachments, Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) demanded from the government.
However, Murtaza Wahab clearly said that the drive is going be conducted only against commercial encroachments.
