Govt. Increases Levy On Petroleum Products By Rs.7.07 Per Liter

The government has increased the levy on petroleum products with effect from September 16. Due to the government’s decision, people have been deprived of the benefit of more than Rs. 7.07 per liter. According to the details, the Federal Ministry of Finance did not increase the prices of petroleum products but increased the levy imposed. According to media reports, the prices of petroleum products may be reduced from September 16, but the prices have been maintained at the previous level by increasing the levy on petrol, diesel, and kerosene.

It has been reported that due to the increase in petroleum levy by the Ministry of Finance, the people have been deprived of the benefit of more than Rs. 9 per liter. If the petroleum levy was not increased, the price of diesel will be more than Rs 9, petrol will be more than Rs 7 per liter, kerosene will be more than Rs 4 and light diesel will be Rs 5 per liter in benefit means it could be cheaper according to the above estimates.

The Finance Ministry has applied for an increase in the levy on petroleum products from September 16. It should be noted that the government is now considering a change in the prices of petroleum products after 15 days instead of one month. OGRA had on September 1 recommended an increase in the prices of petroleum products. OGRA had recommended an increase in the price of petrol by Rs. 7 per liter and diesel by more than Rs 8 per liter from September 1, but the summary was rejected by the Prime Minister.
