The Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination has proposed to legalize the sheesha cafes.
Talha Iqbal—the representative of all Pakistan Café and Restaurant is of the belief that the tax of Rs,100 on the sales of sheesha would yield in tax collection of millions in a year from just one sheesha café.
While to a private news channel, the committee head—Senator Mian Muhammad Ateeq briefed that the government does not take advantage from the sales of sheesha and that despite raids, the sheesha restaurants in the posh areas keep doing their business. He also proposed the representation of the tobacco industry in the committee.a
The senator also said that now the adults bring sheesha to their homes, which means that all of the family members indirectly are involved in the act of smoking. He inquired that if it is not banned in the developed nations of the world, then why the item use is banned in the country.
Owing to these reasons, the committee is taking in consideration to abolish the ban on sheesha which would result in the collection of tax.
The parliamentarian said that they are moving in the direction of the documented economy from a black economy in line with the vision of Imran Khan.
