The federal government has banned the purchase of new vehicles as well as new jobs in all ministries and divisions during the financial year 2020-21 under the fiscal austerity policy.
A five-member committee headed by the Additional Secretary Finance (Expenditure) has been set up to look into the urgent need for new vehicles and new posts in the ministries and divisions.
In this regard, a memorandum issued by the Ministry of Finance, states that officers and newspapers in all ministries and divisions and their subordinate departments will also be banned and only authorized officers will be allowed to purchase a newspaper or magazine, according to AFP.
The government has also banned the purchase of all types of vehicles and new positions other than motorcycles. It will be the responsibility of the accounting officers to control the expenditure on other utility bills including electricity, water, and gas, and to minimize the maintenance expenditure of other government assets, keeping these expenditures limited to the funds allocated in the budget. If it is necessary to purchase new vehicles or create new posts in a ministry or division, the committee will review the requirements and make its recommendations. After that, it will be possible to purchase vehicles or create new jobs where there is a dire need for it.
