Government Rejects Holiday on Iqbal Day Nov 9 2017

Ministry of Interior has rejected Iqbal Day Holiday summary. Public holiday on 9th November 2017, Iqbal Day is denied by Federal Government of Pakistan Ministry of Interior.

From last two years since 2015, the government has canceled Iqbal Day holiday. This year a summary of a public holiday on November 9th was sent to the ministry. It was hoped and expected that the ministry might accept holiday on Iqbal Day but Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal has rejected it.

Annual holiday notification of interior ministry Government of Pakistan was issued on January 11th 2017 vide circular No. F.No.2/4/-2016(public)/holidays.

Allama Iqbal was born on 9th November 1877 in Sialkot. He played an essential part in Pakistan’s freedom from British and Indian rule through his poetry, philosophy and scholarly work. He was known as the ‘Spiritual Father of Pakistan’. In his remembrance Pakistan celebrates Iqbal Day, events are organized in the country. This year, again the government has denied a holiday on Iqbal Day.
