After announcing the maize production competition in the various districts of Punjab last week, the Punjab government is now considering organizing Fruit and Vegetable production competition across Punjab.
Earlier, the Punjab government with the help of Punjab Agriculture Department has started to organize maize production competition. The registration for the competition is currently underway which is going to be completed by September 30.
Now for the first time, vegetable and Fruit production competitions (2017-18) are going to be held at district as well as provincial level on the direction of Chief Minister Punjab, spokesperson Punjab Agriculture Department said it on Monday.
The idea of organizing these competitions is to encourage the farmers and boost their morale to strengthen their farming and production systems. Punjab Agriculture Department is looking for various projects to motivate growers of rice, cotton, potato, orange, maize/corn and guava to participate in the upcoming competitions, he said.
He said, various farming and agriculture-related tools would be given to the winners along with prize money, Tools like laser land leveler, tractor trolley, hot water treatment plant, rabbi planter, disc harrow, potato digger, DSR drill, zero tillage drill, harrow with engine, maize shredder, cotton ridger, orchard sprayer, boom sprayer, rotavator, offset rotavator and others would be given to participants.
The modern technology and machinery not only helps farmers to increase per acre yield but also saves a lot of time for farmers, he added.
