It is expected that gas and electricity prices are likely to experience an increase again.
A summary has been forwarded to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority—NEPRA by the Central Power Purchasing Authority—CPPA proposing a surge of Rs.0.57 per unit in the prices of electricity.
In the month of April, as per the summary, more than 9.71billion units of electricity was produced at a cost of Rs.53.63billion.
As per NEPRA the request of the Central Power Purchasing Authority was because of the fuel adjustments for the month of April.
A spokesperson of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority on Friday said that for the financial year 2019-2020, they had surged the gas prices by 47percent.
He added that a 144percent surge in the gas prices was asked by the Sui Southern Gas Pipelines Limited—SNGPL while a 30percent surge was suggested by the Sui Southern Gas Company—SSGC.
The spokesperson further said that the firms which provide gas in the cities of Quetta, Lahore, Peshawar and Karachi had made requests to conduct public meetings.
In the meantime, OGRA has proposed a surge of 47percnet for SNGPL and 28percent increase in the prices of gas for SSGC.
The official decision for surging the gas prices would be taken after the federal government gives approval to the new prices, the spokesperson maintained.
