Pakistan has introduced the first-ever electric car company, Topsun Motors in collaboration with China. On 3rd January 2020, its first showroom was inaugurated in Jail Road Lahore.
However, let us make this clear as of yet no electric car has been launched by the company. After the implementation of the EV policy, they will launch an electric car.
The showroom was inaugurated by Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed the Provincial Minister of Punjab for housing, urban development, and public health engineering. The Minister praised the efforts of China in helping Pakistan moving forward in terms of technology.
4 models were introduced at the inauguration event, a hatchback, and three JMC models. They are Zotye Z100 for PKR 1,490,000/-, JMC Single Cabin for PKR 2,950,000/-, JMC Double Cabin for PKR 3,950,000/-, and JMC Vigus 2.4-litre for PKR 5,015,000/-.
These vehicles are engine-based and the prices we have mentioned are inclusive of withholding tax. The electric version will be introduced once the electric vehicle policy is implemented.
The price of the electric version of Zyote Z100 will be around PKR 1.9-2 million. This version is internationally available.
Recently the cabinet approved the first National Electric Vehicle policy of Pakistan. Pakistan, following the vision and mission of PM Khan, wants to reduce the carbon emissions in the atmosphere by launching electric vehicles in the country.
Malik Amin Aslam, Adviser to the PM on Climate Change said that Pakistan would be able to save 2 billion in the yearly oil import bill by converting to electric vehicles in the future.
