It has been announced that the recent price-hikes will start to decline during the present month of February. During a review meeting on controlling food inflation chaired by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, the announcement was made that inflation is expected to drop this month.
There were a few measures considered for overcoming the crisis of skyrocketing prices of food items. In the meeting, it was discussed that the government is making every possible effort to reduce food prices and inflation.
It has been directed by the Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar to strengthen the monitoring system of 18 essential commodities in all the provinces of Pakistan. These include wheat, sugar, flour, edible ghee/oil, potatoes, onions, and pulses.
Umar said that the top priority of PM Khan is to provide the people with essential commodities at affordable prices. As per the PM Khan directives, a further recommendation will be given to PM to reduce the prices of commodities.
Officials were instructed by Asad Umar to ensure a regular supply of wheat from public-sector stocks. Umar Lodhi, Managing Director of Utility Stores was directed by the Federal Minister to check the prices of pulses. Also, the Ministry of Food was asked to develop strategies in order to increase the local production of food products.
In the meeting, the Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research Makhdum Khusru Bakhtyar, Minister for Industries and Trade Punjab Mian Aslam Iqbal, Managing Director Utility Stores Umar Lodhi, Secretary Food Muhammad Hashim Popalzai and senior officials were present.
A few days back PM Khan tweeted that, “I understand the difficulties ordinary people incl salaried class are confronting & have decided, come what may, my govt will be announcing various measures that will be taken to reduce prices of basic food items for the common man in Cabinet on Tuesday. “
