Fitbit phases out Google Sign-in support in advance of new account requirements starting in 2023

In September 2022, some sneak peeks were shared about modifications to Fitbit accounts. As of now, one such modification has surfaced online. This alteration mentions that Fitbit users can’t log in to their accounts using Google credentials. This new indication is appearing in the form of a message on the account page of Fitbit. It mentions that it is going to remove the option to log in to the website using the credentials from Google. This news is not unexpected since the company had already declared that it will terminate Fitbit accounts in 2025.
This step is taken to make the creation of an account and logging in easier. There are not a whole bunch of surprises. In 2019, Google purchased Fitbit. Since 2019, the company dealt separately with Fitbit. However, in 2022 the company used the branding “Fitbit by Google” on its website. Since then the company has attached a support page for its shift to Google accounts.
The support page of Fitbit has mentioned the key differences between having a Fitbit and Google account. Furthermore, the page indicates that users can facilitate the products and services of Fitbit via their Google accounts. Although the company has introduced a separate support page for Google, still users would be able to utilize their old Fitbit accounts for the services. In addition to this, customers are instructed to remember their account details in order to enjoy the effortless transition from a Fitbit to a Google account when required.
A Google account will be required for the users who are either signing up for a new account or starting a new product. As of now, no deadline or specified date has been mentioned yet. However, the company mentions that timely reminders will be sent out to all users. this alteration might be tiresome for a few users, but having a single account holds lot more advantages including privacy controls and improved security. Do note that accessing a few features within Fitbit requires a Google account.
Although the service is moving towards Google accounts, it clearly mentioned that it won’t utilize the data collected for Google Ads.
