Zahid Iqbal, 43, from Sahiwal, is the first Pakistani in China to be vaccinated with the Sinopharm Code-19 vaccine which is made by China.
According to Pakistan’s state-run news agency APP, “Pakistan was told last month that it would buy 1.2 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm.” This was the first official confirmation of Pakistan’s purchase of the vaccine in an attempt to combat the second wave of coronavirus.
This week, Dr Faisal Sultan, Imran Khan’s special assistant for health, said he hoped Pakistan would receive the first batch of corona vaccine “in early February”.
According to the APP, Zahid Iqbal told the Chinese media that he received the second dose of the vaccine on January 10 and he is very excited about it. Zahid Iqbal has been working as head of science and curriculum at an international school in Shanghai for the past 18 years. “At first, the news of the vaccine scared me, but after some research, I decided to get it,” he said. “There was a long queue outside the vaccination centre, but after going through different stages, I got vaccinated, which felt very common,” he said. “We were allowed to fill out a consent form in case of pain or fever a day or two later in response to the vaccine.”
According to Zahid Iqbal, “they were examined for 30 minutes to see if there were any side effects.” He also praised the Chinese government’s efforts to control the coronavirus.
