A free online crash course in artificial intelligence was launched in Finland. The aim of the course was to educate its citizens regarding the new technology. Now Finland is making the 6-week program available for anyone to take for free as a Christmas gift.

Finland has decided to translate the course into every EU language as a gift to the citizens. There are no geographical restrictions regarding who can take the course and who can’t. So the whole world can benefit from it.
In Finland, people were receptive to this course as 5.5 million citizens signed up for it. Currently, the course named Elements of AI is available in English, Swedish, Estonian, Finnish, and German.
The course offered by Finland is well designed. It offers shorts tests as each section ends. Also, many topics are covered in the course from the philosophical implications of AI to technical subjects like Bayesian probability.
Six weeks are the timeframe of the course. Each section takes from 5 to 10 hours. Originally the course was designed by the Finnish government to give its citizens an advantage in AI.
According to the tech consultancy Reaktor Megan Schaible the motivation was “to prove that AI should not be left in the hands of a few elite coders.”
