The federal government has removed Hafeez Sheikh from the National Finance Commission. The government has submitted a new notification for the formation of the National Finance Commission to the Islamabad High Court. As per the notification, the new commission consists of nine members and Finance Advisor Hafeez Sheikh has been removed from the Commission while Javed Jabbar himself had resigned from the Commission.
Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan while presenting the new notification for the formation of the National Finance Commission before the court said that the first notification has become ineffective, now this notification is on board, the financial advisor has not been included in the commission as per the new notification. The TORs against the formation of the National Finance Commission have also been changed. I also objected to the notification of the formation of the old Finance Commission.
Justice Amir Farooq told the petitioner that the notification which was challenged was withdrawn by the government. The petition filed by him in his case was complied with. After the new notification of the commission, his petition became ineffective. Islamabad High Court disposed of PML-N’s petition.
League leader Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha said that our objection was that the Finance Commission was formed without consulting us. It is our achievement that we forced the government to work under the constitution. It should be noted that PML-N had challenged Hafeez Sheikh’s participation in the commission. The old commission consisted of 11 members, including Hafeez Sheikh.
