The Federal Board of Revenue—FBR has issued notices to the private schools, tuition centers and colleges in Karachi. Nearly 6,324 private educational institutions have been given notices for getting themselves registered with the board.
The FBR has said that despite earning heavy incomes, many private institutions have not registered with the board. The board has also received information regarding the secondary and intermediate education boards.
FBR has unveiled that it is also in contact with the All Private Schools Association—APSA for broadening its tax net.
Previously, the FBR has asked for information from the provincial education departments and private education associations for collecting data on the schools and colleges. The board has said that the schools are withholding tax agents and they are supposed to gather advance tax from the people paying fees above Rs.200,000 a year.
The board has got the aim of recognizing the taxpayer who pays a heavy amount of fee on a per-year basis by bringing the educational institutes into the tax base.
