Facebook Releases New Desktop Messenger App For Video Conferencing

Facebook has quickly responded to the increased need for video chats in times of the corona crisis and releases a desktop version of its messenger which accommodates Video conferencing.

Applications for video conferences have in times of Corona pandemic and the resulting home-office trend booms. Colleagues working from home exchange problems in group chats, teams discuss day-to-day business and some companies even use this option to fire employees. Families also hold video conferences to keep in touch in quarantine times. Most companies and individuals are currently using the Zoom conference app. It is now getting new competition from Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg & Co. have released a new desktop version of their Facebook messenger, which was specially designed for the use of group chats and video conferences.

The software is now available for Windows and macOS and can be used free of charge via a Facebook account. You can get in touch with anyone you have on your Facebook friends list. E-mail addresses or telephone numbers are not required for a joint online chat. 

Thanks to multitasking support, you can continue working in other programs while video chatting. Desktop notifications notify you of new events. Facebook also advertises with high picture and sound quality and promises a night mode for video chats in poorly lit surroundings. You can download the new desktop messenger for free from the US Microsoft Store or the Mac App Store.
