Facebook and Google Start Investment in Pakistan

Fawad Chaudhry Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting revealed that the rumor of Facebook and Google investing in Pakistan is actually true.

While addressing a Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting meeting, Fawad Chaudhry said that the tech giants have already started investing in the country. It will boost the IT industry of the country.

Senator Faisal Javed chaired the Senate’s standing committee. It was attended by Sabir Shah, Khushbakhat Shujaat and Rubina Khaild.

It was discussed by the committee that Pakistan has successfully developed a conductive environment for foreign investment in the country as many businesses and companies are interested to invest in the country.

Large foreign direct investment projects have been initiated from various countries including China, Saudi Arabia, UK etc.

As of now it is yet not known which projects Facebook and Google will invest on in Pakistan but considering the size of these tech giants, it will be something mega and it will surely generate ample revenue in the country.

Furthermore the Senate’s standing committee also discussed the establishment of a new regulatory authority for regulating all types of media in Pakistan.

It will be called Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PMRA). Currently the electronic media in the country is regulated by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) while the digital media is regulated by Pakistan Telecommunication Authorities (PTA)
