Yesterday, dawn reported that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rolled out a notification to all of its offices concerning the use of social media websites in the office. ECP banned Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and other video streaming and social websites in the office ours across the country.
ECP deputy director Syed A. Rahman Zafar issued a letter to provisional offices in Punjab, Sindh, KPK and Balochistan. Blocking social media sites will protect the systems from malware attacks, it also ensures the fair use of electronic resources and generates optimum performance”
“Concerned Authority has been directed to immediately block all the social websites including; Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and some others on all ECP networks, secretariat, PEC offices and field offices”. According to the letter dated March 31.
It is the responsibility of provisional election commissioners now to ensure the blockage of all social media sites with the cooperation of PTCL managers and National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC).
