Education Ministers to Meet Again on November 23rd to Decide the Closure of Schools

On Monday, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said that the education ministers will meet again on November 23rd to decide about the school’s closure and early winter vacations due to the worsening situation of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

The provincial ministers explained the forum about the latest COVID-19 situation and the education sector, though, no final decision was taken about the vacations and closure of schools.

According to the details, the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers’ Conference (IPEMC) would again meet on November 23 at 11:00 am to review the situation.

Prior, Punjab Minister for School Education Dr. Murad Raas said that the decision about the closure of schools in the province has been deferred till next week.

The provincial minister issued the statement after attending the inter-provincial meeting of the education ministers at the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

As per Murad Raas, no decision made on the closure of Schools in Punjab today. The next meeting will be on Monday 23rd November 2020 for further review of the COVID 19 situation.

All options are being discussed. No instant decision for now.

The meeting was also attended by officials of the health ministries and the NCOC apart from the education ministers. 

Earlier, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood had confirmed that the meeting would take place to review the situation in educational institutes. 

Shafqat Mehmood wrote that we have summoned an important meeting of provincial ministers on Monday at 11:00 am to discuss the latest coronavirus situation in the country, as we stated before that the health of students is our first priority.

The meeting was announced last week following the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) recommendation to announce early and extended winter vacations for schools due to the rising positivity rate in educational institutes.

The NCOC had said that Mehmood would lead a special session with provincial education ministers on November 16th on the matter.
