The Emergency Cash Assistance (Criteria and Mechanism) has been approved by the Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet for the laborers whose livelihoods got affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Imran Khan made the announcement earlier. It has been formally approved by ECC. Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh chaired the committee.
On May 3rd, 2020 PM made the announcement that the money collected via the PM COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Assistance Fund 2020 will be used to help the people whose livelihood got affected due to the lockdown. PM announced that the funds will be disbursed via the Ehsaas Emergency Cash program.
Also, it was announced that Prime Minister that for every rupee that is donated the government will match 4 rupees in the fund. The budget released to BISP includes Rs. 75 billion out of the Rs. 200 billion earmarked in PM’s relief package for the distribution to the laborers in the country. The Finance Division, Poverty Alleviation Division, and BISP will work out the modalities of the disbursement.
It has been approved by the BISP Board to identify the beneficiaries for Ehsaas Labour (Category-IV), the eligibility criteria used for Category–III of Ehsaas Emergency Cash might be applied.
