It has been announced by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet that there will be no gas load shedding in Pakistan in the winter season. Petroleum Ministry submitted a report on the gas load shedding in Pakistan 2018-19. The report was discussed by the Economic Coordination Committee upon which the decision was made that in the winter season, no gas load shedding will be carried out.

In order to overcome the gas demand and supply, Regasified Liquified Natural Gas (R-LNG) will be added in the system. National Power Parks Management Company Limited (NPPMCL) was also given a GoP guarantee by the ECC.

Furthermore, in the meeting, the Power Division approved the summary of obtaining the Islamic financing facility for the power division.

Another meeting will be held, chaired by the Petroleum Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan in which the Cabinet’s Energy Committee will discuss a four-point agenda.

In the meeting the power sector’s production cost will be discussed. Also the generation capacity of the installed power plants will be revealed. Furthermore it will be reviewed as to why despite having LNG-fired plants to generate affordable electricity, expensive power was used to generate via furnace oil. The energy committee will be enlightened about the LNG demand and supply present situation in Pakistan.
