The federal and provincial governments have been directed by the Supreme Court, not to appoint dual nationals on top positions. They are asked to seek the approval of the Cabinet and then draft laws in this regard.
The verdict was announced by a three-judge bench. It was headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and it is comprisedof Justice Umar Atta Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan. The verdict wasannounced on the suo moto case of the dual nationalities of the governmentofficials.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) during the Saturday’s hearing submitted a list of almost 1000 dual national who are government officials. FIA informed that “719 officers had declared their dual national status while the others had hidden it.”
The court in a written order stated that if these officials do not surrender their nationalities within the specified time period legal action will be taken against them.
As per the bench, those government employees who have foreign nationalities during the course of their employment can be a threat to Pakistan’sinterests.
Thus the verdict has been given by the court not to appoint dual national individuals on high government posts.
