Dr Zakir Naik had rushed to Malaysia in 2016, he was living in Putrajaya following the Modi government ramped up pressure on him for his supposed hate speeches.
The “Peace TV” scholar was blamed for provoking the ISIS militants who then later carried out the Dhaka attack in 2016—a claim that is heatedly denied by Dr Zakir Naik.
Dr Naik has denied these allegations and said that he disagrees that he inspired any such act of killing innocent people. He declared that “terrorism is Devil-ish”.
He told The Indian Express that he condemns the attack. He added that by using the name of Islamic State, the name of Islam is being condemned.
Dr Naik in an open letter insisted the government to be honest with the facts in their inquiry.
India has been tailing the scholar ever since the attacks. It has also associated properties worth rupees 183.7 million in the forms of real estate properties, mutual funds and bank balances of Islamic Research Foundation (IRF)—a property that belongs to him and has got an extensive fan base in India.
The website of IRF foundation has been blocked alongside the raids that have been conducted at its offices throughout Mumbai. IRF has been banned by India for five years. This decision was taken last year.
