Germany is keen to push mutual interests with Pakistan in the travel industry, German Ambassador Martin Kobler met Chief Executive Officer, Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL) Musharaf Rasool Cyan in order to discuss the matters of mutual interest for both countries, which includes direct flights between Pakistan and Germany.
Mr. Cyan told German Ambassador that PIA will conduct market research and data analysis in order to make commercial decisions, the CEO requested German Ambassador to provide a cushion to PIA in securing expeditious arrangements with European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for PIA engineering certification.
Mr. Kobler assured his support for PIA, he also said Pakistan and Germany have shared strong diplomatic, social and business ties, and we will continue to develop these ties further. PIA has also played a very important role in strengthening ties between the countries.
Unfortunately, PIA is facing economic difficulties for the past few years; PIA is thinking to close the strategic routes to three European destinations including Barcelona, Paris, and Milan to minimize the losses airline is incurring. It was also decided to close Frankfurt Germany route as well.
Earlier, PIA has already suspended the New York route,
Last week, government officials also had a meeting in which privatization of PIA was under discussion. The government said, PIA including some other state-owned corporations are hitting the national exchequer, the government would privatize some stakes of PIA to reduce the loss and improve its efficiency in current capacity.
