Dinesh Chandimal found tampering the ball, suspended for the third test match

The captain of Sri Lanka cricket team Dinesh Chandimal has been suspended for the third and last test of the series against West Indies after ICC found him guilty of tampering the ball in the second test match, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in its statement.

Chandimal was charged by the ICC during the test match in St Lucia, after the video evidence came on the surface which indicates that he took sweets out from his pocket, putting them in his mouth just before applying saliva to the ball within seconds.

“After reviewing the video evidence, it has been cleared that Chandimal had tampered the ball by applying an artificial substance to the ball, namely saliva containing the residue of something he had in his mouth during the match, this action is not allowed under the ICC Code of Conduct,” Javagal Srinath, the match referee said in a statement.

“During the hearing process of the incident, Chandimal admitted that he had something in his mouth but couldn’t remember what it was, I found this statement inconvincible as a defense and the fact still remains that it was an artificial substance,” referee added.
