Rs12 billion is collected in the Diamer Bahsha and Mohmand dam fund as informed to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Water Resources held under the chairmanship of Muhammad Yousaf Talpur. The money is with the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The construction of 25 MW hydropower project on Chashma Jhelum Link Canal, Diamir Bhasha and Mohmand Dam Fund, and master plan for water conservation was discussed by the committee.
Sindh govt raised a strong objection to the construction of 25 MW hydropower project on Chashma Jhelum Link Canal as per Yousaf Talpur. He said that Sindh has also objected to the project.
According to Ali Nawaz Awan, the project should be referred to the Council of Common Interests. It was informed to the committee that CCI will take place on December 11th. According to Maryam Aurangzeb the hydropower project on Chashma Jhelum Link Canal has become quite controversial thus it should be forwarded to CCI.
Riaz-ul-Haq, the member of the committee said that it was proposed that this matter of the project on Chashma Jhelum Link Canal will go to CCI.
According to Federal Secretary Water Resources Mohammad Ashraf, this project is being constructed on Punjab’s share of water and all the provinces do have the right to put hydroelectric power on the waters of its territory. The Federal Secretary, however, is not supportive of the idea of taking the Chashma Jhelum Link Canal project to the CCI.
