The government of Denmark has proposed a ban on full-face veils in public places. Following the Islamic practice, many women wear full-face Burqa around the globe. The Danish government is denying them that right and is ready to impose a ban on it.
The justice minister of Denmark Søren Pape Poulsen said, “It is incompatible with the values in Danish society and disrespectful to the community to keep one’s face hidden when meeting each other in public spaces.”
He added, “With a ban on covering the face we are drawing a line in the sand and underlining that in Denmark we show each other trust and respect by meeting face to face.”
Now the proposal goes to the non-governmental human rights organizations. They will analyze & assess it & may make changes accordingly. The proposal can be rewritten as per their suggestions.
The bill will be brought to the parliament by the centre-right government in power in Spring. The chances are that along with the second biggest party of Denmark, Danish People’s party, the legislation against full-face veil will be adopted.
If anyone violates the ban he will be fined 1,000 kroner or $150 and if the violation is repeated the fine can be extended to 10,000 kroner or $1,665.
“Poulsen said, “I don’t think there are many who wear the burqa here in Denmark. But if you do, you should be punished with a fine.”
In the past year, in Belgium, the European court of human rights supported the ban on full-face veils. France was the first country in Europe to ban full-face veils in 2011. After that many countries have followed the lead. In France, face-covering Muslim veils in the public places are completely banned & fines are placed on those who wear it.
It is strange that the West talks about freedom to express, practice & live yet the ban contradicts their own preaching.
