An announcement has been made by Ghandhara Nissan Ltd (GNL) stating that three new Nissan models will be launched in Pakistan in 2020. These models are Datsun Go, Go Plus and the 1200cc Datsun Cross.
In the first year, Ghandhara Nissan will produce 15,000 vehicles. They will be raised to 35,000 in five years time. In the initial 4 years, the company is planning to invest around Rs 6.5 billion.
The aim is to convert the plant in Port Qasim in to one of the best manufacturing facility. Other than manufacturing cars this whole investment will create almost 1800 jobs.
In the next three years 35 to 40 percent indigenization is expected after initial 18% start. Already 22 vendors have been shortlisted who will locally produce parts of the Nissan cars. But the prices of the vehicles have not been decided as they will depend on the rupee dollar situation at that time.
Ghandhara Nissan also organized the first event regardingits local production. The event was attended by 35 companies that supply local parts.
At the event the CEO GNL Ahmad Kuli Khan Khattak said, “This event demonstrates how we will collaborate closely to provide our customers with an expanded choice of products and a fantastic ownership experience.”
The collaboration between GNL with Nissan after the company was awarded the brownfield investment status under the Auto Development Policy 2016-21, will be beneficial for the Pakistani auto industry. While enhancing competition, it will also create jobs and boost Pakistani economy.
