City Traffic Police Lahore is collaborating with Punjab Information and Technology Board to develop better traffic management and offer traffic updates to the public. For this purpose they will introduce an Android Application which is called RASTA. RASTA stands for Road and Streets Traffic Awareness

This decision was made in a meeting between both the collaborating parties which also included Rai Ijaz Ahmad Chief Traffic Police Officer. This meeting was held at Arfa Kareem Technology Park Tower where it was discussed what would be the functionality of the App.

The meeting was conducted by the essential group who had used the app in its experimental project, as per Ijaz. The group came up with proposals and suggestions regarding the app and shared their experience. There would be six salient characteristics of the app which include FM Radio, traffic updates, e-challanning, e-licensing and complaints.

The travellers would be informed about news or events relating to traffic due to any functions and programmes going on in the city. For instance, if any event is going on the in the city the app would inform you on its schedule and give guidance according to the traffic plan.

The public would be instructed to take a different route if there is any hindrance or blockage on the main route. It would ensure that the citizen reach their destination within time. To make it a two-sided communication, feedback would be taken from the people. They can register their complaints and suggestions and also upload pictures and videos of areas where they feel the traffic issues are stagnant.

To aware the public about this latest development CTPL would send a message to citizens who have a license. The message would be about education and awareness related to traffic. Moreover Ijaz told that one use of app is for the public and the other is for the wardens which would be taken care of by management of CTPL.

The app would be launched before Eidul-Fitr as per the planning. It will be available on Google play for download for the citizens. They will need to add their CNIC number for download. We can hope that this app would improve traffic system in Lahore and bring betterment for the people.
